What Are You, Really?
This can be a very tricky question.
You may identify as a father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter, but those are only roles. They describe your close interactions. Your associations.
Are you identified with your work or profession? That is only what you do. Your activities.
Are you a fan of movies, books, television, churches? Those are your recreations.
Are you a high school graduate, college graduate or advanced degree holder? Those are accomplishments.
Are we our age, height, weight, gender? Those are characteristics of our body. Are we our bodies? If so, who is it that says “our” or “my” body. No, we are more than our body.
Let’s think about this a minute. So, if we are not our associations, accomplishments, bodies or our activities, what are we?
When you sit and think, do you notice what you are thinking? Do you notice your thoughts wandering at times? Who is it that notices those things? If you can observe your thoughts, you must be something other than your thoughts. So you are not your mind.
Here;s where I will lose some of you for a time, but you will see the truth of it eventually. (“But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own authority. But He will speak whatever He hears, and He will tell you things that are to come.” John 16:13 – Modern English Version) You are an amazing being. You are what the Bible calls “spirit”. You possess a soul, which includes your mind, will and emotions. You live in a body, an “earth suit” if you will. As a spirit, you are connected to the Universal Spirit, whom I call God. Others may use a different name, but the truth is the same.
Okay, fasten your seat belts. Because you are connected to the Eternal, and everybody else is connected to the Eternal, you are connected to everyone else as well. That means that you can achieve anything you desire as long as it is good for you, takes no one else’s good and creates good for many. If, as most people believe, the Universal is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, You are connected to all wisdom and power. Only you are mostly unaware of this.
Here is some advice from the Bible:
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.(Psalm 46:10)
In your patience possess ye your souls. (Luke 21:19)Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
Think on the fact that you are a far more powerful being than you have previously imagined. More to come.
