Sticks and Stones
There is an old saying that we teach to children that goes something like “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never hurt me.” Some people revise it (or maybe this is the original) “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.”
But that’s only partly true
The names you call yourself and the words you use when you talk to yourself CAN hurt you. Jesus said that you would give an account for every idle word we speak. In Proverbs it says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21)
Amazing Promises in the Bible
Throughout the Bible you see that God is on your side. Starting from the beginning, He put man in a garden, not in a desert. He urged the people in the wilderness to choose life. Jesus said that you can have what you say if you do not doubt in your heart.
You present to yourself
Your mind is open to what you say.
Is it really true that you have what you say?
It works all the time
Most of the time this works against you when you say things like:
“I’m so clumsy”
“I can’t … “
“Nothing goes right for me”
So What Do You Do Now?
Commit to only say things to yourself and others that will result in things that you want. You can be what you want to be if you start now to control your words.
