MKMMA Week 17 – Concentration

Some Thoughts from Haanel

The kind of deity which a man consciously or unconsciously worships indicates the intellectual status of the worshiper.

. . .

We of the 20th century worship a God of love in theory, but in practice we make ourselves “graven images” of “Wealth,” “Power,” “Fashion,” “Custom” and “Conventionality.”

17.10. Spiritual truth is therefore the controlling factor; it is this which will enable you to grow out of limited attainment and reach a point where you will be able to translate modes of thought into character and consciousness.

Some Thoughts from Jesus

if you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32, KJV)

I will pray the father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him; but you know him; for he dwells with you and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you. (John 14:16-18, KJV) [I substituted “you” for “ye” for ease of reading]

Some Thoughts from Rick

Dictionary.com defines concentration as

1. the act of concentrating; the state of being concentrated.
2. exclusive attention to one object; close mental application.
3. something concentrated:

Meaning #2 is the one meant by Haanel. The other two are circular definitions, or at least require you to look up concentrated and concentrating (which are merely forms of concentrate).. Here is the definition of concentrate: to bring or draw to a common center or point of union; converge;direct toward one point; focus: (verb with object) or to bring all efforts, faculties, activities, etc., to bear on one thing or activity (verb without object).

Both Jesus and Haanel agree that the spirit of truth is within you. Your subconscious is connected to the infinite source of wisdom, truth, and power.

So then, why do I sometimes feel so lost? Is it because I don’t fully concentrate on the truth of the indwelling infinite? Am I afraid to believe that I’m all-powerful? Does that seem sacrilegious?

So during the sit, I concentrate my thoughts on seeking the truth. The truth is that the dominating aspect of the universal is love. In part 15, Haanel called love the creative principle of the universe. The Bible declares that God is love. It tells me that perfect love casts out fear. So then, faith is not the opposite of fear; love is. Fear is simply faith that something bad is going to happen. If I am conscious of the fact that God loves me, I need not fear.

It occurs to me that there is no such thing as cold; there is only heat. Temperatures can go up into the thousands, but only to -273°C, which is the complete absence of heat or absolute zero. This is the principle of the heat pump. Darkness is simply the absence of light. Even lighting a candle casts out darkness.

So now that I have concentrated on harmony and insight and now concentration, I am conscious of the omnipresent love surrounding me. Not only surrounding me, but in me as well. I am indeed nature’s greatest miracle because I am connected to the infinite.
